Artistic Assembly
Active
volunteers, Dave and Lori Burr, didn’t have a massive renovation in mind when
they first called Ann Bridgman from Just the Thing Decorating for a
consultation. They were just interested in freshening up the living and
family rooms. But during that meeting, the ideas flew and the desire to
do more than a cosmetic update grew in the couple over the following
weeks.
Once
Sterling Renovations had signed on for the project, Dave, Lori and Ann got to
work choosing materials. Avid art collectors, the couple was not content
to create the standard white and gray kitchen. First falling in love with
a countertop material of honed black and gold granite, the team then found the
perfect complementary backsplash of textured glass tiles, and a one of a kind
onyx slab for a feature wall. The custom range hood and shelves feature mixed
metals, a theme echoed in the lighting choices.
In
addition to the kitchen, the project included the family room and fireplace,
living room, craft room, and game room, and refinishing and adding hardwood
floors throughout.
Colors
and materials outside the kitchen were kept simple and quiet so the collected
art could have center stage. Accessories used were meaningful pieces collected
during Lori and Dave’s extensive travels abroad.
The
results are breathtaking: a dramatic kitchen balances vivid paintings with
elegant, comfortable furniture inviting friends and family to linger and enjoy.
